After graduation from law school in 1991, Richard Altmark began his legal career primarily defending those charged with criminal offenses.

As a result, he immediately gained invaluable jury trial experience and was involved in several high-profile cases both in Maryland State and Federal Courts. While Mr. Altmark still handles criminal/traffic/DUI charges and MVA hearings, he has broadened his practice areas over the years. As a result, Mr. Altmark regularly tries cases before the Maryland Workers’ Compensation Commission as well as Diminished Value (DV) automobile cases, and has also tried countless personal injury cases before the District and Circuit Courts throughout Maryland.

Diminished Value has become a niche practice for Mr. Altmark and he has handled hundreds of these claims over the last ten years. For those that are not familiar with the concept of Diminished Value, it is simply the loss in value that a motor vehicle suffers as a result of an accident. As insurance carriers generally do not like to accept these claims, Mr. Altmark has taken many of them to trial with exceptional results. In fact, as this part of Mr. Altmark’s practice has grown, he has become the attorney to which many such claims are referred by other attorneys and firms. In some cases, the Diminished Value claim is worth more to our client than the associated claim for physical injury.

Mr. Altmark has also handled automobile accident cases and DUI/Traffic cases for over twenty years. When selecting an attorney, it is important that there be a high level of experience as these cases can be quite complex. For example, there are very time-sensitive issues associated with a DUI case that could lead to the loss of driving privileges if not dealt with competently.

Moreover, because Mr. Altmark has a great amount of experience pursuing automobile accident cases, he understands how important it can be to see that insurance benefits are properly coordinated. This can make a huge difference to his clients’ ultimate recovery.
